The Glasgow Richmond Model Boat Club

Displays and Shows

Photograph of the club's portable pondThe club has a portable pond some 6m x 5m and 0.3m deep. It holds thousands of litres of water. The pond is used to provide model boat displays for various organisations at their shows such as Galas, open days, etc.. In addition to providing transport for uplifting and return of the pond, the club receives a donation. This helps to pay towards the annual running costs of the club.

The club also has an open day with free entry for the general public. This open day is an opportunity for the members of the public to come down to the park and:

a. see the model boats built by club members, and

b. get a hands on experience of sailing model boats

The club has a number of "Hands On" models (known within the club as "The Charity Boats" <grin>), which are used, in a separate area of the pond, to give the public a chance to sail a model boat (costs £1.00 a go), the money raised goes to charity (The club only retains a small proportion of the funds, to maintain the model boats used.). At our AGM the club members vote as to which charity that year's funds are donated to... or, at special events, the money is donated directly to the charity involved. (see below)

There are also different activities for all ages. The main attraction of the day is our warship battle display using real explosives! The club also provides reasonably priced snacks. On the whole it is a great day for the families and every one else.

At times, the club also organizes special events for specific charities and donates the monies directly to the charity involved (only retaining a small proportion of the funds, to maintain the model boats used.)
