The Club FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Have you ever thought to yourself... "If I ask this question, I'll appear stupid"... not so!
Since time began people have asked "basic" questions on every subject under the Sun.
This page is an attempt to answer those frequently asked questions (hence FAQ) about the club and model boat building & sailing.
If your question is not answered on this page, please e-mail the webmaster , who will pass the question onto the members of the club, who will endevour to provide an answer.
Now onto the questions....
Q. Do I need a model boat to join the club.
A. No, there is a few members that have joined the club without models and became model builders. They have
joined the club to travel to other shows and to help raise money for charity.
Q. How do you control radio frequency at the pond.
A. When a member wishes to sail a model there is a peg board in the clubhouse, before switching on your radio
control equipment you MUST obtain the correct frequency peg from the board thus eliminating any other member
sailing their model on the frequency that you are using.
Q. Does my model boat need to be able to sail.
A. No, your model can be a static model that you can enter into competitions on open days and regattas.
Q. Is building a model very expensive.
A. Building a model can be expensive or inexpensive it all depends on the individual building the model and which
method is used to build the model, whether you buy a kit or scratch build a model with any material you think fit.
Q. Is there a minimum age to join the club.
A. No there is no minimum age to join the club we only ask that very young children have an adult accompany them
to the club on sailing days and at away shows that the club participate in.
Q. Is the pond deep enough for me to sail my yacht.
A. Yes, many members sail yachts in the pond, it is a case of if there is enough wind on the day you choose to sail
your yacht.
Q. Can I sail my steam powered boat in the pond.
A. You can sail your steam powered boat in the pond but you do need to have a valid boiler test certificate.
Q. I am interested in building a radio controlled model boat but I don't know where to start.
A. Come along to the club and any member will help you, all you have to do to start is decide what kind of boat you
would like to build and what kind of budget you would like to adhere to.
Q. Does the club open all year round.
A. The club opens all year round, every Wednesday and Sunday from 1.00 p.m. In the winter most of the members
come to the club to discuss model boat building while sitting in front of coal fires and drinking tea.
Q. Is there anymore financial obligations when I join the club.
A. No.
Q. Do I have to attend every show that the club holds or participates in.
A. No you don't have to but if you already have a model that you can display or sail at a show you would be amazed
how much interest it can create with the public. Members that don't a have model yet come along to the shows to
help out and see other attractions.
Q. I have mobility problems, is access to the clubhouse easy.
A. Yes, the clubhouse is on ground level and has no stairs internally or externally you can also drive a car into the
park and park at the clubhouse, if you have a model to sail members are always willing to unload it from your car
and put it in the pond for you to sail.
